About SCSAR

Mission Statement

South Columbia Search and Rescue (SCSAR)'s mission is to help people in need throughout the South Columbia region's backcountry and communities. We work in partnership with emergency services to respond to searches, rescues, and public safety incidents while promoting outdoor preparedness and safety. SCSAR aims to make a difference through safe, reliable, and efficient services in the outdoors.

Who We Are

SCSAR is a dedicated group of professional volunteers who provide emergency services at the request to the RCMP, the BC Ambulance Service, and other authorized Requesting Agencies. Our primary roles are to find and assist people who become lost or injured within our service area, and to support local authorities during natural disasters or mass casualty incidents.

Where We Operate

Our service area encompasses the municipalities of Trail, Montrose, Fruitvale, and Salmo. SCSAR operates in the area east of the Columbia River out to Kootenay Pass, and north from the US border to the Village of Ymir. We provide services in our South Columbia region, and we regularly assist neighbouring SAR groups through mutual aid requests across the province as needed.
